Refugee family fundraiser update! Moms they need your help
I just got off the phone with one of the coordinators that helped place the refugee family (see post below about our fundraiser). After our phone conversation she e-mailed me with a little more information about this family and their story along with their photo. I couldn't help but feel a deeper burden to pray for them and also help them out with some of their material needs. I hope you do too.
Here is what she sent:
The newly arrived Rwandan family has been through a great deal of trauma and we are doing our best make their new home a place where they feel safe, loved and cared for. This family fled Rwanda in the middle of the night at the beginning of the genocide, Robert was about 4 and Patricia about 2, they walked to Burundi where they stayed until the genocide spread there The mother was about 8 months pregnant at the time they fled again on foot to the Congo where Ange was born, they, with a new born they were attacked there and forced to flee to the Central Republic of Africa. The were in a Camp in the CRA for several years. In the Camps starvation is part of daily life and rape and murder are as common as a common cold in America. The camp then closed and they were forced out, they found a small one room house were they lived until the came to America. It is likely that Lucie, the niece, parents were killed in the genocide, however I have not confirmed this, she would have been about 9 when the genocide took place.
Attached is a family photo, taken at the host families home after arrival. The children are now 16, 14 and 10.
